Jen Graham - Doula

The Basics:
My name is Jen Graham, I am a birth and postpartum doula. I have been trained through both CAPPA and DONA. I also have training as an Evidence-Based Birth instructor®, and HypnoBirthing® Practitioner, though I have chosen not to continue those certifications. I teach Newborn 101 and Individualized birth preparation classes. I am currently a nursing student at Palomar College. I am certified in CPR and First Aid, fully vaccinated, and Trustline certified (Full background check). I live in San Marcos CA. I have four adult children, and a sweet doggie named Sunny. My first three children were born in the hospital, and my fourth was a planned home birth with a midwife. I had a doula for the last three of my births. Those births showed me the power I had within myself and proved to me that birth really could be beautiful, sexy, amazing, and even enjoyable!
Why I Chose to Become a Doula:
I began my journey as a birth doula in 1996, shortly after the birth of my oldest son. His birth experience was not what I had envisioned—I was uninformed about my options, lacked the tools to cope with labor, and felt overwhelmed. Determined to have a different experience the next time, I immersed myself in learning everything I could about pregnancy, birth, and lactation. I read extensively, attended classes and workshops, and deepened my understanding of how birth could be both beautiful and empowering.
This passion for informed, peaceful birth experiences soon grew into a calling. I realized I wanted to support others in navigating their own birth journeys, and from that, my career as a birth doula was born.
My work as a postpartum doula naturally evolved from my birth support services. I saw firsthand that families who prepared for birth also needed guidance and care in the postpartum period. Too often, the focus is placed solely on pregnancy and birth, leaving families without the tools they need for a smooth transition into parenthood. I believe that developing strong bonds in the postpartum period fosters happy, healthy families and positively impacts a child’s lifelong well-being.
With this in mind, I am dedicated to ensuring families feel confident, supported, and nurtured as they welcome their babies into the world.
Let’s Get Personal:
When I’m not supporting families through birth and postpartum, you can find me in the kitchen, camping in the forest, horseback riding (hunter/jumper style), sipping a craft beer or good wine, or hunting down the best food spots—because life’s too short for a bad meal. On the weekends, I love playing board games with my boys, laughing until my face hurts, and spending time with my dog.
I’ve been told I’m fun, quick-witted, and just the right amount of sassy. I love a good debate, quality time with family and friends, and believe most conflicts can be settled with a solid game of Rock, Paper, Scissors.
One day, when I grow up and finish nursing school, I plan to be a Midwife, Wonder Woman, or both—I haven’t quite decided yet. Until then, I’ll be here, drinking my coffee black, sitting with my face in a nursing book, and helping families navigate the wild, beautiful adventure of parenthood.
